Departing Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger didn't want to sign former midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January, it has been revealed.
The Daily Star says it is understood he has become increasingly disillusioned with the club's transfer policy as chief executive Ivan Gazidis and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat are having an increasing say in dealings.
Wenger wanted to swap 's Anthony Martial for Alexis Sanchez in January and also pushed for Chris Smalling.
But he was overruled by Gazidis and Mislintat, who opted for Mkhitaryan.
It is also believed Gazidis was instrumental in buying £35m centreback Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia, despite a scouting report which highlighted frailties in his game.
